Things You Might Not Have Known About Carl Lewis

After damn near biting through my lip to keep from laughing at the office while watching Carl Lewis screech his way through the national anthem, I turned to Wikipedia to see what other shenanigans he may have pulled.

  • Won 10 Olympic medals (9 gold) and 9 World Championship medals (8 gold) in sprinting and long jumping.
  • First man to run 100m in less than 10 seconds.
  • Had no sense of modesty or humility, known for gloating and taunting his opponents. This might be a common factor in people who have two first names.
  • Was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1984 with the 208th overall pick.
  • Was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1984 in the 12th round as a wide receiver, despite having never played college football.
  • Had the audacity to enter both the NBA and NFL drafts, actually get drafted, and then never play for either team.
  • Is a vegan. (WTF, how??)
  • Recorded a single titled "Break It Up" with his band, Carl Lewis and the Electric Storm. The music video consists of his Olympic highlights and closeups of him working out. This guy seriously loves himself.
  • Unfortunately, his musical career never took off (and after the Star-Spangled debacle, its not hard to see why). He is now an actor in Los Angeles.
  • Is a legitimate challenger to Wesley "Two Scoops" Berry in the "Who Is LeBron's Dad" category.
